Riyadh: Iran, responding to US and Israeli attacks, has achieved a major success. Iran has destroyed the CIA station in Saudi Arabia in a drone strike. The CIA station was located within the US Embassy in Riyadh. The suspected drone struck the CIA station on Monday. This attack comes amid reports that US intelligence agencies are planning to arm Kurdish fighters to incite an uprising in Iran. Just two days before the attack, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in a US and Israeli attack. The CIA had provided the location for this attack.
Part of the CIA station collapses
The Washington Post reported that the CIA cited an internal State Department alert. This shows that a portion of the CIA station collapsed and filled with smoke in the drone strike. The station also suffered structural damage. The US and Saudi Arabia reported that two drones struck the embassy complex but did not specify whether the CIA station was affected.
Iran enraged by Khamenei's death
Iran is enraged by the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in an Israeli and US attack on Saturday. Tehran has been carrying out frequent attacks against Israel and US allies in the Middle East. On Tuesday, a similar drone strike rocked the US consulate in Dubai, causing a massive explosion and a fire. Earlier, six soldiers were killed in an attack on a US base in Kuwait.
President Donald Trump ordered the attack on Iran on Saturday. The initial strike, which killed senior leaders, including the Supreme Leader, was a major success. However, Iran's response has surprised the White House. President Trump has admitted that he did not expect Iran to attack its neighbors, who are not participating in the campaign.
CIA preparing to incite rebellion in Iran
Iran's attack comes at a time when the US is in talks with Kurdish leaders about attacking Iran. Iranian Kurdish militias have thousands of troops stationed along the Iraq-Iran border, and they enjoy support in the northern Kurdistan region. The Trump administration is now attempting to deliver weapons through this route. This area has been a haven for local Kurdish groups since the fall of Saddam Hussein. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has targeted these groups with drone strikes in the region since the war began on Saturday.
