With this, Team India has now become the third team to play in two consecutive T20 World Cup finals. Previously, Pakistan had played in two consecutive T20 World Cup finals in 2007 and 2009, while Sri Lanka had played in two consecutive T20 World Cup finals in 2012 and 2014.

England captain Harry Brook won the toss and elected to bowl first against India in the semi-final. Batting first, Team India posted 253 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson top-scored with 89 runs. Will Jacks and Adil Rashid took two wickets each for England.
Chasing a massive target of 254, England batted brilliantly and almost achieved such a massive target in a big match. Jacob Bethell played a brilliant innings of 105 runs off 48 balls. However, his century failed to win England the match. England managed only 246 for 7 in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya took the most wickets for India with two wickets. Jasprit Bumrah also bowled brilliantly.
