New Delhi: The issue of the notice to remove Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is expected to be resolved by Wednesday. After this, the opposition is preparing to corner Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The opposition may introduce a notice to remove Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The notice against the CEC could be presented in the Rajya Sabha.
Sources said the TMC raised this demand during the opposition India Alliance's strategy session held at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's office on Monday, when the budget session resumed after a break. TMC MP Shatabdi Roy reportedly informed the public about the increasing difficulties with the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists in poll-bound West Bengal. He reportedly stressed the need for the Chief Election Commissioner to take further action on the TMC's demand.
Sources said the opposition parties are prepared and a notice will be filed soon. This consensus is significant because the TMC has been demanding a removal notice against CEC Kumar for several months, although its appeal did not receive immediate approval from other allies.
- Interestingly, the TMC did not sign the opposition's joint removal notice against Speaker Birla at the end of the first half of the Budget Session in February.
- TOI reported on February 14 that the opposition would file a notice against the CEC when Parliament resumed. The sudden unity between the TMC and the rest of India bloc was evident on Sunday when the Bengal-based organization announced that it would support the no-confidence motion against the Speaker despite not signing the removal notice.
- The continued no-confidence motions against the two constitutional authorities are likely to further strain the already strained relations between the opposition and the ruling BJP-led NDA, and will not resolve the differences between the rival camps.
