Washington: There is a tense situation between the US and China. But still the diplomatic connection between the two has not ended. US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he has spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping after the swearing-in. Earlier, he had also revealed a conversation with Putin in an interview. Trump confirmed this in an interview with Fox News on Monday evening. Trump said that he has spoken to Xi and his people. Trump told Fox News host Brett Baier, 'I like President Xi very much. I like talking to him.'
Trump further said, 'I have spoken to him and I also talk to his people. His people keep coming often.' Trump also praised his personal relationship with Xi and said that he knows him better than any other people sitting in the other corner of the world. However, Trump did not tell when he talked with Xi and what issues the two leaders discussed. Trump started his second term on January 20. After this, this is the first confirmation of conversation with Xi. Trump and Jinping had a conversation on January 17. Then both of them discussed trade to fentanyl and TikTok.
Ongoing tariff battle
A tariff battle is going on between the US and China at this time. A trade war can be seen once again between the two like Trump's first term. Trump has imposed a 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports. He has done this to stop fentanyl drugs. In response, China has also imposed tariffs on American goods, including coal, crude oil, liquefied natural gas and high-emission vehicles. These tariffs have come into effect from Monday. After China's retaliatory tariffs last week, Trump had said that he was in no hurry to talk to Xi.
Also spoke to Putin
Donald Trump had earlier said in an interview that he had spoken to Russian President Putin. He indicated that Russian negotiators want to meet American counterparts. According to the New York Post report, when Trump was asked how many times he spoke to Putin, he said, 'It would be better if I don't say this.' Trump said during this time that he has a plan to end the war. But he refused to give details related to this.
