Tel Aviv/Tehran: Israel and the US have launched attacks on Iran. Explosions have been heard in several locations in the capital, Tehran. Israel has warned its citizens to stay near safe areas. At least three Israeli attacks on Tehran have been reported. Israel has already warned its citizens about Iranian missiles. The IDF launched a surprise attack on Iran on Saturday morning. Iranian state media reported that explosions were heard in Tehran. At the time of the attack, the IDF had sent a national warning to all citizens to stay near safe areas. The IDF stated that "this is a proactive alert to prepare the public for the possibility of missiles being fired toward Israel."
According to the Fars News Agency, several missiles landed in the University Street and Jomhouri areas of the capital, Tehran. The Israeli military stated that this was a security alert, warning of a possible missile launch from Iran. Several videos have emerged from Iran showing explosions, causing panic among the public. Iranian media reported that the Israeli military targeted the headquarters of the Iranian military's IRGC intelligence department. Central Tehran was also targeted. There are no reports of any missile attacks toward Israel yet. Israel has closed its airspace to civilians.
Advisory issued for foreign citizens living in Iran
Meanwhile, advisories are being issued by various countries around the world in response to the current situation. In a similar vein, Britain has issued an advisory for its citizens living in Israel and Iran. The advisory states, "This travel advisory applies to Israel and Palestine. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is now advising against all but essential travel to Israel and Palestine." The FCDO has also advised against travel to Gaza. The FCDO advises against travel within 500 meters of the border with Gaza. The advisory also covers the West Bank, Tulkarm Governorate, Jenin Governorate, Tubas Governorate, and Route 90.
The FCDO advises against traveling within 500 meters of the Area of Separation in the occupied Golan Heights (Alpha Line). Do not attempt to enter the occupied Golan Heights via Syria. In accordance with the advisory, as a precautionary measure, we have temporarily relocated some of our staff and their dependents from Tel Aviv to another location within Israel. Our embassy is operating normally.
