Prayagraj: 30 people died in a stampede during Amrit Snan on Wednesday early morning on the day of Mauni Amavasya in the Mahakumbh fair held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. DIG Mahakumbh Vaibhav Krishna said that 30 people have lost their lives in the stampede in the Mahakumbh. 25 people have been identified and the remaining five are being identified.


Along with this, he said that a total of 60 people were injured in this stampede, out of which 36 people were admitted to the hospital. Other people were given first aid. Vijay Kiran Anand and Vaibhav Krishna DIG Mahakumbh gave information in a press conference. He said that some people wanted to go ahead by breaking the barricades, due to which this accident happened.


DIG Vaibhav Krishna said that there was a huge crowd pressure before Brahma Muhurta. Then the barricades broke. The administration took 90 people to the hospital. 36 injured are being treated in the local hospital. After 25 dead have been identified, the other 5 are being identified. The accident happened due to the breaking of some barricades in the fair area and Akharas. Devotees lying on the ground were crushed under the feet of the running devotees.


The DIG also said that there was no VIP protocol in the fair administration today. Devotees were waiting for Brahma Muhurta. Then there was pressure from the crowd from behind and this accident happened.


Eyewitnesses say that due to the pressure of the crowd, a stampede-like situation had arisen, but the police administration controlled the situation effectively after the incident. People say that due to the quick response of UP police personnel, a major accident was averted. An eyewitness trapped in the accident says that the police personnel came as God's messengers for us, otherwise a large number of lives could have been lost.


Let us tell you that, due to Mauni Amavasya, a large number of devotees had arrived at the Maha Kumbh Mela. Since last night, devotees were ready to take a dip in the Sangam at the auspicious time. Meanwhile, a stampede accident took place. After which the police administration came on alert mode. Also, a no-vehicle zone was declared in the fair area. Entry passes of vehicles were canceled. The road became one-way. Vehicles coming from 5 districts adjacent to Prayagraj were stopped at the district border. Entry of four-wheelers is also banned across the city.
