Mass shooting at Canadian school leaves at least 10 dead, gunman found dead

Ottawa: At least 10 people, including the gunman, have been killed and several others injured in a mass shooting in British Columbia, Canada, police said. According to local media, the incident occurred on Tuesday (local time) at a school in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), six people were found dead inside the high school. Another person died on the way to hospital.

According to police, the suspected gunman was also found dead. Police say he died of self-inflicted injuries. This information was reported by Canada's leading media outlet, CBC. Additionally, the bodies of two people were found in a house, which police believe is connected to the shooting. All those injured in the incident were taken to the hospital after receiving first aid, where they are receiving treatment.

    Police Lift Active Shooter Alert

MLA Larry Neufeld expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In a post on X, he said, "I am closely monitoring the situation in Tumbler Ridge following the tragic and deeply disturbing incident at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School." He stated that police have confirmed that multiple people have been killed. He further stated that the active shooter alert has been lifted following the suspect's death, but the investigation is ongoing.

Neufeld continued, "I want to thank the first responders, school staff, and local authorities for their swift and professional response to this very difficult situation. My prayers are with the students, families, teachers, and the entire Tumbler Ridge community. This is a small, close-knit town, where everyone feels the impact of an incident like this."

    Police are investigating the incident.

He added, "Out of respect for those affected, it is important that we give the police the time they need to complete their investigation and confirm details. I will continue to share verified information as soon as it becomes available." The MLA also said that anyone experiencing mental or emotional distress following the incident can contact him. Meanwhile, police have stated that the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation. No additional information has been released about the suspect.
