Suspect shot by Secret Service after gunfire near White House

Washington: A shooting incident has occurred near the White House, the official residence of the U.S. President. Consequently, authorities were compelled to impose a temporary lockdown on the premises, and security was heightened. The U.S. Secret Service confirmed that on Monday, its personnel took action at the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue, where an armed suspect was shot. In an initial statement, the agency noted that its officers were present at the scene of the shooting.

President Trump Was Attending an Event

At the time of the incident, President Donald Trump was inside the White House, participating in an event. The Secret Service stated that the incident resulted from an altercation between an armed individual and Secret Service police officers, during which one of its officers discharged their weapon. Authorities did not immediately release any information regarding the identity or condition of the individual who was shot.

At the time of the incident, President Trump was hosting a business event inside the White House. Officials confirmed that the President remains safe and that there was no breach of White House security. Law enforcement agencies temporarily sealed off the surrounding areas while the scene of the incident was being investigated. Authorities had closed off roads surrounding the White House for a short duration.

    Shots Fired During Trump's Dinner

This latest shooting incident comes at a time when concerns regarding President Trump's security have been mounting. Over the past year, he has received numerous death threats, and attempts on his life have also been made. The most recent prior incident occurred this past April, when shots were fired during a dinner attended by White House journalists; President Trump was the guest of honor at that event. The Secret Service immediately evacuated Trump, First Lady Melania, and Vice President J.D. Vance from the stage.

The incident occurred when an individual named Cole Thomas Allen attempted to force his way past a security checkpoint at the venue located within the Washington Hilton Hotel. Officials reported that the individual was in possession of a pump-action shotgun, a semi-automatic handgun, and three knives. He fired a shot on the stairs leading toward the venue, injuring a Secret Service agent. The agent was wearing a bulletproof vest, which absorbed the impact of the bullet to his chest.
