Kiev: After Donald Trump's heated debate with Volodymyr Zelensky, America has stopped giving military aid and intelligence to Ukraine.
Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe has said that the US has stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine. This step has been taken amid uncertainty regarding peace talks on the Ukraine war. This can have a serious impact on Ukraine, which is embroiled in a war with Russia. This move of America has also caused concern in European countries. America has been Ukraine's biggest helper for the last three years in the war against Russia. In such a situation, Zelensky is currently in such a mode, from which it is not easy for him to find a way out.
Military Aid Stopped on March 3, Intelligence Cut on March 5
According to a Firstpost report, the Donald Trump administration halted military aid to Ukraine on March 3, and two days later, on March 5, it also stopped sharing intelligence. It is not yet certain to what extent the intelligence has been halted—whether this includes the activities of the Russian army in the occupied territories of Ukraine or not.
'This Move of America is Not Right'
The US decision to stop sharing intelligence with Ukraine has surprised many people. Even US Representative Jim Himes said in a statement that it is not right to stop helping Ukraine against Vladimir Putin's aggression. Any ban on sharing intelligence should end immediately.
In an interview with the BBC, David Rennie, geopolitics editor of The Economist, said that Trump's move is dramatic as well as cruel. The decision to stop sharing intelligence with Ukraine can lead to the death of a large number of people. Former senior CIA official Mark Polymeropoulos said it sends a message to the world that the US is not a reliable ally.
Ukraine in a Helpless State
Since the war with Russia began in 2022, the US has been sharing satellite images, electronic surveillance, and communication interception information with Ukraine. This lets Kiev know how to defend itself against Russian aggression. US intelligence has enabled Ukrainian troops to track Russian spy satellites, listen to conversations of Russian commanders, and monitor them.
US intelligence is essential to protect Ukraine. Ukraine's air raid sirens and mobile phone alerts also run on warning data from US satellites. This helps detect aircraft and missile launches inside Russian territory. In such a situation, Trump's decision has suddenly put Ukraine in a blind well. If this decision will be difficult for Ukraine, then Russia can directly benefit.
