Trump Halts US Student Visa Interviews, New Guidelines Soon for Indian Students

New Delhi. If you want to go to America to study and then want to settle there, then know Donald Trump's new policy once. If you want to study in America, then you have to stay away from things like political agendas and protests. We are not making this claim, but the new guidelines issued by the US State Department today are pointing towards this. The US has temporarily stopped booking new student visa interviews globally. This decision has been taken due to the plan to make social media investigation more strict for foreign students under the Trump administration.

According to the Times of India report, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued this directive through a diplomatic cable. It has been said that until detailed new guidelines are issued, new appointments for student and exchange visitor visas will not be added in embassies and consulates. However, pre-booked interviews will be held as per schedule. The aim of this move by the Trump administration is to tighten the visa process in view of national security and unrest in colleges and universities. Rubio indicated in March that some students are coming to the US not to study but to join the protests.

1.4 lakh Indian students reached America last year

This policy can particularly affect students from countries like India, where the demand for studies in American universities is increasing. More than 1.4 lakh student visas were issued from India in 2024, which is the highest globally. The expansion of social media investigation has already been controversial. In 2025, the Department of Homeland Security began investigating students' social media accounts, particularly for content that is considered "anti-Semitic" or in support of terrorist organizations such as Hamas.

Students are in a state of fear

  1. If you miss a class, your visa will be cancelled! America warns Indian students
  2. Trump's threat - Pay 5 trillion dollars or accept subordination to America
  3. If Trump imposes 50% tariff on EU, India will benefit by ₹1,173 billion
  4. America is sinking in debt! Modi left Trump miles behind in 2 matters

This move of the Trump administration is creating fear and uncertainty among students, as visas can be canceled on the basis of minor violations or political expression. In India, this decision is a matter of concern for thousands of students who have enrolled in US universities for the 2025 session. The shortage of visa slots from March 2025 was already causing trouble for students. Experts believe that this policy may affect educational exchanges, due to which students may turn to alternative destinations like Canada or the UK.
