Trump orders military assessment on Greenland amid Russia, China concerns

Washington: A US military attack on Greenland could happen very soon. This apprehension arises from a report claiming that US President Donald Trump has ordered his special forces chiefs to plan an attack on Greenland. Trump has reportedly told top US military officials that they should take action in Greenland because further delay is not advisable. Trump believes that delaying action on Greenland could give China and Russia an opportunity to intervene. Several experts have therefore predicted an attack within the next few days or even hours.

This report comes after Trump's statement in which he emphatically stated that Greenland would be acquired. Trump cited US security as the reason for his desire to acquire Greenland. Trump argues that if the US doesn't do it, China or Russia might. The Trump administration has stated that it wants control of Greenland and that a military option is on the table. Greenland is currently a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark.

Order to plan an attack on Greenland

The Daily Mail, citing sources, claims that Trump wants a plan to acquire Greenland as soon as possible. Trump is relying on the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to plan the attack. However, the Joint Chiefs of Staff do not agree with this. On the other hand, political advisor Stephen Miller wants action on Greenland.

The report, citing diplomatic cables, states that for domestic political reasons, Trump may create a situation that later leads to a negotiated settlement. European officials fear that time is running out for Trump before the mid-term elections, so he may take action in Greenland soon. However, there is currently no consensus within the military on this matter. Trump sees threat from China and Russia

US President Donald Trump says the United States needs to acquire Greenland to counter Russia and China. Trump says the US must protect Greenland because Russia and China have their eyes on it. To protect Greenland, we need to bring it under our control.

Donald Trump has said several times in the past year and recently that Greenland being under US control is crucial for his country's security. On the other hand, both Denmark and Greenland have said they are not ready for this. The Danish government has even threatened that a US military attack would lead to the collapse of NATO.

Why is the US interested in Greenland?

Greenland is located between North America and the Arctic. Its people govern themselves, but foreign policy and defense are handled by Denmark. Due to its unique location, Greenland is crucial for early warning systems in case of missile attacks. It is also strategically important for monitoring shipping.
