Washington: US military and arms control experts have given new information about China's aggression towards Taiwan and the increase in its nuclear arsenal. US Strategic Forces Commander General Anthony Cotton has told the US Congress that Chinese President Xi Jinping has instructed that the Chinese army should be ready to capture Taiwan by 2027. For this reason, China is promoting the manufacture of nuclear weapons. These nuclear weapons can be fired from land, air and sea.
What is China's nuclear policy
At the same time, China reiterated its long-standing promise in its national defense policy that it would not be the first country to use nuclear weapons under any circumstances. This includes the "no first use" policy, which promises that China will not use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against a non-nuclear country. In response to questions, the Defense Ministry in Beijing said, "Nuclear war cannot be won and should not be waged."
China can launch a nuclear attack on Taiwan!
In its annual report on Chinese military power, the US Defense Ministry Pentagon has called China's public stance false. The Pentagon has said that China's strategy includes the possible first use of nuclear weapons in response to conventional attacks that would eliminate the viability of its enemy's nuclear forces, command and control. The Pentagon said in the report published late last year that Beijing would also consider the first use of nuclear weapons if a conventional military defeat in Taiwan "seriously threatened" the existence of the communist regime.
China rapidly increasing nuclear weapons
According to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, China is expanding and modernizing its weapons stockpile faster than any other nuclear power. It reports that China currently has about 600 nuclear weapons. It says that China is building about 350 new missile silos and several new bases for road-mounted mobile launchers.
China has 712 ground missile launchers
It is estimated that China's military, the People's Liberation Army, has about 712 launchers for ground missiles, but not all are for nuclear weapons. It says that 462 of these launchers can be loaded with missiles "that can reach the United States." The bulletin's assessment says that many of the PLA's launchers are for short-range missiles intended to attack regional targets, but most of them are not designed for nuclear attack.
