Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a serious allegation against the US, saying that it is helping Russian President Vladimir Putin to get out of international isolation.
Why is Zelensky angry?
This statement comes at a time when diplomatic talks between the US and Russia are increasing. Recently it was reported that there could be a possible meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Apart from this, there have also been indications of possible peace talks, which the Ukrainian government seems dissatisfied with.
Zelensky said:
"The sanctions and international pressure imposed on Russia were aimed at isolating Putin, but the US is now bringing him back to the global stage. This can be dangerous not only for Ukraine but for the whole world."
New turn in US-Russia relations
Ukraine is concerned about the numerous diplomatic contacts and discussions that have taken place between the United States and Russia in recent weeks. While Ukraine views diplomacy as being lenient toward Russia, US officials think it is essential to bringing the war to a conclusion.
Ukraine's concerns
- Reduction in Western support: If the US negotiates with Russia, the possibility of cutting European and US military aid may increase.
- Russia's international position will be strengthened: If the strategy to isolate Putin weakens, he may become more aggressive.
- Threat to Ukraine's security: Zelensky believes that if there is an agreement between the US and Russia, Ukraine's interests may be ignored.
What is America saying?
White House officials have rejected Zelensky's allegations. He said that exploring the possibility of peace talks does not mean that the US is taking a soft attitude towards Russia.
At present, the increasing diplomatic activity between America, Russia and Ukraine can bring a major turn in global politics.
