Australian MP Drinks Beer from Shoe in Parliament, Shocks Everyone on Last Day

Canberra: Such an incident has happened in the Parliament of Australia, which is surprising everyone who sees it. Here an MP first removed a shoe from his foot inside the Parliament, then put beer in it and drank it. This video of the MP drinking beer by putting it in the shoe is going viral on social media. People are reacting to it in different ways, while for some it is surprising that how can someone drink by putting something in the shoe. But you will be surprised to know that what the MP did is a part of the tradition of drinking alcohol among the Australian people.

    Unique way to say goodbye

What Australian MP Kyle McGinn did on his last day in Parliament was his way of saying goodbye. This tradition is called Shoei among Australians. According to a report in the New York Times, under this tradition, alcohol is poured into a person's shoe. After drinking alcohol, the wet shoe is returned to the person to wear.

    These celebrities have done Shoei

There is no clear information about when the Shoei tradition started, but many celebrities have done it publicly. This list includes celebrities like Australian Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo, film star Patrick Stewart, Jimmy Fallon, Hugh Grant and Gerard Butler.

According to the report published in the Sydney Morning Herald, MP Kyle McGinn said about drinking beer in shoes inside the Parliament, 'I thought a lot about how to end this speech and I felt that this was the only way. The people of my constituency in Goldfields will especially appreciate it.' Before finishing his drink, he said, 'I am used to hearing scolding, so we should end it here, but I would like to say to the voters that thank you for two wonderful terms. Cheers.'
