Kabul: The firing that began on Tuesday at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has stopped. Afghanistan stated that Afghan forces retaliated after Pakistani forces opened fire, leading to the clashes. Several Pakistani army posts were destroyed. Tuesday's clashes occurred in the border area of Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, which borders Pakistan.
According to information provided by Hurriyat Radio on Tuesday evening, fighting between Afghan and Pakistani forces in Nangarhar has stopped. Zabihullah Noorani, Information Director in Nangarhar, provided this information. Responding to questions about attacks on Pakistani army posts in Afghanistan, Noorani said that firing first came from Pakistan towards Afghanistan, after which Afghan forces retaliated.
No casualties in Afghanistan
Zabihullah Noorani said in his statement that the border clash occurred on Tuesday morning. The Pakistani Army opened fire on the Afghan side in the Kot area of Nangarhar's Nazian district. Afghan border forces responded. Noorani confirmed the cessation of the clashes and said there were no casualties on the Afghan side.
Tension has long existed between Pakistan and Afghanistan over the issue of harboring terrorist groups. The Pakistani government and military claim that TTP members are coming from Afghanistan and carrying out terrorist attacks on its soil. Afghanistan has vehemently denied these allegations, but Pakistan refuses to accept them and repeats them.
The armies of the two countries came face-to-face last year.
Last year, the Pakistani Army carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan, claiming to target the TTP. Following these attacks, Afghanistan retaliated on the border. This escalated tensions between the two sides to the point of war-like situation on the border in October last year. Arab countries subsequently mediated a ceasefire.
Fresh tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan escalated on Sunday. Pakistan's military launched attacks in areas bordering Afghanistan early Sunday morning. Pakistan claimed to have bombed TTP hideouts. Afghanistan, meanwhile, said Pakistan attacked civilians in residential areas. This has escalated tensions between the two sides.
