China Admits Fear of Russia’s Defeat in Ukraine—Foreign Minister Reveals Big Concern

Brussels: China is in fear about the war going on between Russia and Ukraine for more than 3 years. China does not want to see Russia losing the war with Ukraine under any circumstances. It fears that if this happens, the US will turn its full attention towards China. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has confessed this fear to the leaders of the European Union. This has been revealed in a report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP). According to the report, Wang made this remark during a meeting with EU Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas on Friday.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning dodged the question when asked about Wang Yi's remarks at a media briefing. SCMP reported that Wang's comments have surprised some EU officials. Wang is currently on a visit to the EU. However, the Chinese Foreign Minister rejected the allegation that China was materially supporting Russia's war efforts.

Allegations of support to Russia denied

Wang insisted that if China was doing so, the war would have ended long ago. During a four-hour debate on several issues, Wang said he told Kallas the reality of real politics, including Beijing's belief that Washington would soon turn its attention to the East (China). According to the SCMP report, Wang's statement in Brussels can be understood as saying that China has not called for war, but as long as the US is engaged in Ukraine, its expansion may suit its strategic needs.

Trump has threatened Ukraine

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to leave Kiev and has at times been seen taking a hardline stance in favor of Russia over the conflict. On Monday, the Pentagon halted shipments of some air defense missiles and other precision weapons to Ukraine over fears that the US stockpile is running low, Politico reported.

Confrontation between China and the European Union

The war in Ukraine that has been going on for more than three years has remained one of the biggest reasons for confrontation between China and the European bloc. It has criticized Beijing for supplying dual-use items to Russia. Beijing has denied the charge and presented itself as a peacemaker that considers both Moscow and Kiev as partners. However, China has never criticized Russia's invasion and maintains close diplomatic and economic ties with Moscow, which is a major reason for the displeasure of European leaders.
