Beijing: China has reacted strongly to the Trump administration's approval of arms sales to Taiwan. Angered by the Trump administration's approval of a record $11.1 billion arms sales package to Taiwan, China has imposed sanctions on 20 US defense firms. This information was released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday. The ministry's statement warned that any further attempts to provoke China on the Taiwan issue would be met with a strong response.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry's statement came in response to the Trump administration's announcement of arms sales to Taiwan. The ministry said, "Beijing has decided to take action against 20 US defense companies and 10 officials. These companies and officials are involved in supplying weapons to Taiwan." However, these sanctions are unlikely to have any significant impact on the ground, as the banned US defense companies do not have significant business in China.
US must not cross the red line
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said, "The Taiwan issue is crucial for China. It should be considered a red line in China-US relations and should not be crossed. China will not tolerate crossing this red line and any provocation on the Taiwan issue. Beijing will respond strongly to any such attempt."
Beijing urged the US to adhere to the 'One-China principle'. China said the US government should stop its dangerous attempts to arm Taiwan, stop undermining stability in the strait, and stop sending wrong signals to Taiwanese separatist forces. China will continue to take firm measures.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that their country will continue to take firm measures to resolutely defend its national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. China has repeatedly stated recently that it may launch a military attack on Taiwan. Amidst these concerns, the US has approved arms sales.
