Iran signals new Hormuz management plan, suggests toll system

Tehran: Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has signaled that Iran intends to further tighten its grip on the Strait of Hormuz. Khamenei has issued statements providing clear indications that, rather than merely maintaining control over the Strait of Hormuz, Iran is now formulating a calculated strategy regarding the waterway and is advancing its control to the next level. These stern statements from Iran come at a time when Iranian and U.S. officials are expected to hold talks on Saturday, following the ceasefire in Pakistan.

In a statement read out on Iranian state television, Mojtaba stated, "Iran will enter a new phase in the management of the Strait of Hormuz." It is worth noting that the entire world—and particularly Asian nations—has gained a keen understanding of just how critical the Strait of Hormuz is since the outbreak of conflict on February 28. Iran is now attempting to capitalize on that apprehension, effectively utilizing the Strait of Hormuz as a strategic weapon.

Iran Signals Intent to Increase Restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz

In a statement aired on Iranian television, Mojtaba Khamenei asserted, "Iran will take the management of the Strait of Hormuz into a new phase." It is widely interpreted that this signifies Iran may move to impose greater restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz, executing such measures in a more systematic and organized fashion. The waterway has already been facing significant operational challenges amidst the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Khamenei's statement further asserted, "Iran does not seek war, yet it will not relinquish its rights; furthermore, it views all resistance fronts as a unified entity." Additionally, he reiterated that "Tehran is the certain victor in this conflict."

Moreover, Mojtaba made it clear that retaliatory action remains a central tenet of Iran's stance, linking it to the repercussions faced by the United States' allies. He stated, "Iran is resolute in avenging its late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and its martyrs." Furthermore, he emphasized that Tehran views this conflict from both strategic and symbolic perspectives. It is worth noting that Iran is currently observing a period of mourning marking the completion of 40 days since the passing of the former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
