Tel Aviv: Israel has been under attack from both Iran and Yemen since late last night. Following Yemen, Iran launched ballistic missile attacks towards Israel at approximately 9:45 PM (Indian Standard Time). The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed this development. Earlier today, Houthi rebels from Yemen had also launched attacks on Israel; the IDF reported intercepting a missile fired from Yemen towards Israel early Monday morning.
Regarding the latest attacks, the IDF stated that it is working to counter the threat. In the last few minutes, the Home Front Command issued initial instructions directly to mobile phones in the affected areas, advising people to remain in bunkers until further notice. Prior to this, sirens were heard in the Gush Dan, Shephelah, and Lachish regions of Israel. This latest escalation began after Israel struck Hezbollah targets in Beirut, Lebanon, prompting Iran to retaliate with ballistic missile attacks on Israel. Following Iran's attack, Israel also launched strikes on at least three locations within Iran.
Simultaneous attacks on Israel from Yemen and Iran
These attacks have jeopardized the ceasefire agreement that had been in place since April 8. Iran's state news agency, IRNA, citing the Revolutionary Guards, reported that Israel had previously attacked military sites in Iran overnight using ballistic missiles. The IDF had earlier stated that, acting on military intelligence, the Israeli Air Force struck military targets linked to Iran's "terrorist regime" in western and central Iran.
Iranian media reported explosions in several cities, including Tehran, Tabriz, and Isfahan. An Iranian broadcaster also reported blasts in Tabriz and Isfahan, while Sabreen News—linked to pro-Iran militias in Iraq—reported explosions in Karaj. These attacks occurred after the Pentagon reported detecting signs of missiles or drones in Jordanian airspace. The US Embassy in Jordan warned Americans to stay near safe areas. According to Israeli media, the Magen David Adom ambulance service stated it had received no reports of injuries resulting from the missile attack originating from Yemen.
Israeli Ambassador Supports Israel's Retaliatory Strike
Media reports citing the service mentioned that they were treating an individual who had fallen while running toward a safe area. The military announced that the attacks had ceased and people could safely leave their shelters. Meanwhile, Israel's Ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, commented on the Iranian attacks and Israel's retaliation, stating that "no self-respecting country" would tolerate Iran's missile attacks against Israel. In a post on X, Leiter stated that Israel's airstrikes against Iran were targeting surface-to-surface missile launch sites and energy-related infrastructure, among other infrastructure targets.
