Jerusalem: The Israeli army has said that it has fully established military control over one-third of the Gaza Strip and turned it into security zones. Along with this, the Israeli Army (IDF) is expanding a new dividing line 'Morag Corridor' in the southern Gaza Strip. The army has released an infographic video showing the Morag Corridor passing through the area between Rafah and Khan Yunis. It separates Rafah from Khan Yunis and central Gaza.
The largest city in southern Gaza destroyed
The IDF said in a statement, 'As part of the operation, the IDF has gained full operational control over several key areas and routes throughout Gaza. Approximately 30 percent of the strip's area is now designated as an operational security perimeter.' In the video, Khan Younis, the largest city in southern Gaza, is seen completely destroyed. Only a few buildings remain, which are badly damaged.
The Israeli army is dividing Gaza with a corridor
Apart from the Morag Corridor, the Israeli army has also established the Netzarim Corridor during the war. It is a military buffer zone in central Gaza, aimed at separating Gaza city and northern Gaza from the rest of the region. The Israeli army resumed deadly air and ground attacks once again on March 18, ending a two-month ceasefire with Hamas. The IDF has reported that it has carried out air strikes on about 1200 targets in Gaza since March 18. 350 fighter jets and other aircraft have been used in this.
Israeli Defense Minister's announcement
Meanwhile, Israel's Defense Minister said on Wednesday that the troops will remain in the so-called security zones in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Syria indefinitely. Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement, "Like before, (the Israeli army) is not going to withdraw from the areas that have been evacuated and occupied." He said, "The army will remain in the security zones as a shield to provide security between the enemy and (Israeli) communities in Gaza in any temporary or permanent situation, like in Lebanon and Syria."
