Ottawa: PM Modi has been threatened with murder during the anti-India protest by Khalistan supporters in Canada. Khalistan supporters were protesting against PM Modi being invited to the G7 summit, during which slogans of 'Kill Modi' were raised. Canadian PM Mark Carney has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the G7 summit to be held in Alberta from 15 to 17 June. On Friday, both the leaders spoke to each other on the phone, information of which was given by the Indian Prime Minister by posting on X.
Opposition to inviting PM Modi
Pro-Khalistan groups were opposing the invitation of PM Modi, but Mark Carney decided to invite him in view of India's global position. Relations between the two countries became strained after the killing of pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Nijjar was shot dead in June 2023. Mark Carney's predecessor Justin Trudeau accused Indian agents of being involved in the murder of Nijjar in September 2023. India has repeatedly called these allegations baseless.
Terrorist Pannu threatens protest during the visit
The special thing is that Canadian extremist groups were raising slogans about the killing of the Indian leader during the demonstration, but the Canadian officials present there did not try to stop them. Meanwhile, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, head of SFJ, an organization banned by India, has announced a protest during PM Modi's visit to the G7 summit. Terrorist Pannu has announced a 48-hour protest program from the time PM Modi lands in Canada to his takeoff.
NDP also opposed the invitation
The protest against the invitation to PM Modi has also been supported by Canada's New Democratic Party (NDP). The NDP has described this decision as very disturbing for the Sikh community. The NDP has a history of supporting Khalistanis. NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, who was part of the Trudeau government, had been constantly spewing venom against India.
