Ottawa: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Canada to participate in G-7 summit amidst threats from Khalistanis. This is his first visit to Canada in the last decade. PM Modi landed in Calgary on Monday evening (local time) on the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. He will participate in G-7 summit going on in Kananaskis. Pro-Khalistan extremists present in Canada have threatened PM Modi's visit. Before PM Modi's arrival, Khalistani extremists took out a rally in which they openly talked about attacking him.
Threatening PM Modi by holding a rally
On Monday, pro-Khalistan extremists protested against the Indian Prime Minister. During this, Khalistan flags were waved. Slogans were raised against India and Hindus. Khalistani extremists showed posters of PM Modi criticizing him. In one poster, he was accused of killing Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Bakshis Singh Sandhu, co-founder of the extremist group Sikh for Justice, called PM Modi's presence in Canada a big opportunity.
Sikh for Justice is founded by Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, who has been banned by India. A protester said that Canada gave Sikhs an opportunity to directly challenge the PM of India and ambush him for the next 48 hours. He said that PM Modi is an enemy of Canada. He appealed to the people of Canada to support him in attacking PM Modi.
India called them hired ponies
These protests have taken place at a time when Canada's relations with India are already strained due to its soft stance on the Khalistani agenda. Earlier, targeting the pro-Khalistan protesters, India's Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri called them 'hired ponies' and said that they should not be taken seriously.
The Ministry of External Affairs had said that at the G-7 summit, Prime Minister Modi will exchange views with the heads of member countries, other invited countries and international organizations on important global issues including energy security, technology and innovation.
