Tehran: Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir are on a visit to Iran, where they have met the Iranian leadership in Tehran. This visit of Pakistan's political and military leadership is taking place after the beating that took place after India's Operation Sindoor, the aim of which is to garner support against India. However, Pakistan has been disappointed in this matter in Iran. Shahbaz Sharif raised the issue of his recent conflict with India and Kashmir during his visit to Iran, but Iran has given a very cold response to this.
Shahbaz Sharif met Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei. During this, he mentioned the issue of Kashmir and military confrontation with India, but Khamenei's comment has revealed how much importance he has given to the words of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. In the public comment from Khamenei, it was only said that Iran hopes that the dispute between India and Pakistan will be resolved.
Khamenei spoke on the Palestine issue
According to the Tehran Times report, Khamenei mentioned the Palestine issue during his meeting with Shahbaz Sharif and said that 'although, in recent years, Islamic countries have been tempted to join the Zionist (Jewish) regime, Pakistan has never succumbed to these temptations.' During this, he asked the international community to use its influence to bring about a permanent ceasefire in Palestine.
Measured statement on India-Pakistan tension
During the meeting with Khamenei, Shahbaz raised the issue of India-Pakistan military confrontation. On May 7, India attacked terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). After this, military confrontation started, which ended on May 10 after both sides agreed to stop attacks on each other. Khamenei gave a very measured response to the tension with India. Khamenei said on X, 'We are happy with the end of the conflict between Pakistan and India and hope that the differences between the two countries will be resolved.'
Sharif appeals for peace to India
Iranian state media IRNA reported that President Pezeshkian spoke of Iran's support for a permanent ceasefire between India and Pakistan and called for dialogue to resolve disputes and promote peace. Perhaps this is why Shahbaz Sharif had to say during a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Pakistan is ready to hold talks with India to find solutions to long-standing problems including Kashmir, water-sharing and trade.
"We are ready to hold talks with our neighbour for peace on water issues. We are also ready to hold talks to promote trade and combat terrorism. We wanted peace, we want peace and we will work for peace in the region through dialogue on the table, and resolving our pending issues. If they accept my proposal for peace, we will show that we really want peace," the Pakistani Prime Minister said in Tehran.
