Myanmar Crisis Deepens! Arakan Army Gains Control Over Six Townships, Junta in Trouble

Naypyidaw: In the ongoing battle in Myanmar, armed opposition groups are continuously getting successes against the junta regime. According to research group Nyan Lin Thit Analytica, since December last year, the rebels have snatched six townships from the junta and captured a regional command headquarters. Many armed groups are fighting the junta in Myanmar, in which the role of the Arakan Army (AA) is prominent. AA has captured four townships - Maungdaw, Ain, Gwa, and Taungup in its stronghold of Rakhine state in western Myanmar. Giving a new blow to the junta, AA has defeated the junta's western military command in the city of Ain. The AA has also taken hundreds of junta army soldiers captive.

According to The Irrawaddy report, since the start of its western Myanmar campaign in November 2023, the AA has gained control of 14 out of 17 townships in Rakhine State and Paletwa Township. Paletwa Township is located in Chin State. Currently, AA fighters are moving towards Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine. This has increased the conflict between the AA and the military regime in Sittwe Township.

According to the report, the AA, emboldened by the victory in December, has extended its attacks to the neighboring Magway, Ba, go, and Ayarwady regions. The AA has captured several military bases despite the military regime's increasing deployment on the border. Magway and Bago are home to 23 of the military regime's 25 weapons factories, which are the basis of its strength.

In December, the Chin Brotherhood liberated Mindat and Kanpetlet townships in southern Chin state, which is a coalition of six Chin resistance groups and the People's Defense Forces of Magway and Sagaing regions. During the battle for Mindat City, the AA provided arms, ammunition, soldiers, and military advice to the Chin Brotherhood.
