Dhaka: A big protest has taken place against Israel in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. A rally was held at Sohrawardy Park in Dhaka University area on Saturday. Local media has estimated the number of people gathered in Sohrawardy Park to be more than one lakh. Protesters condemned Israel's attacks in the Gaza Strip and expressed support for the Palestinians. Protesters who arrived with Palestinian flags raised slogans of Free Palestine and Down with Israel.
According to AP report, protesters have burnt effigies of US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It is also being claimed that some people burnt the effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The protesters have accused these leaders of supporting Israel. Symbolic coffins and statues representing civilian casualties were also brought to the rally. Through these, an attempt was made to show how wrong is happening in Gaza.

This demonstration in Dhaka was supported by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party led by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and Islamic groups. In recent times, there have been continuous demonstrations against Israel in Bangladesh. Last week also, thousands of people took to the streets in Bangladesh and raised slogans condemning the Israeli attacks in Gaza.
In Bangladesh, the mob had vandalized businesses linked to Israel, America and their allied countries. Establishments like Bata, KFC and Pizza Hut were attacked in many districts including Bogra, Sylhet, Cox's Bazar. Muslim-majority country Bangladesh does not have diplomatic relations with Israel. Bangladesh officially supports independent Palestine.
