Mexico City: A major train accident occurred in Mexico on Sunday, involving a train carrying 250 people. The accident happened in Oaxaca, southern Mexico, when several carriages of a passenger train derailed. At least 13 people were killed and 98 were injured. Mexican authorities said rescue operations were underway throughout the night. The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals.

A statement issued by the Mexican Navy, which operates the railway line, said the train involved in the accident was carrying 241 passengers and nine crew members. The accident resulted in 13 deaths and 98 people are receiving treatment. They added that 139 people are out of danger.

    Train Service Disrupted

Authorities said the Interoceanic train, which connects the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz, derailed on a curve near the city of Nizanda. The train accident in southern Mexico has disrupted traffic on the rail line connecting the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. This railway line connects southern Mexico and links the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

The country's president, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed her condolences over the accident and instructed that all possible assistance be provided to those affected. Oaxaca state Governor Salomón Jara said several government agencies have arrived at the accident site to assist the injured. The government is providing all possible help. An investigation into the cause of the accident has been launched following orders from the Mexican Attorney General.
