Moscow: Russia has sent an invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to come to Moscow for peace talks. This information was provided by the Russian government on Thursday. This has increased the possibility of an end to the four-year-long war between Ukraine and Russia. The US has also recently intensified its efforts for a ceasefire between the two countries. This statement from Russia comes amidst Trump's claim of a week-long ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
According to the Interfax news agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that an invitation has been sent to Kyiv. However, Moscow has not yet received a response from Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the invitation to come to Moscow. Ukraine has also not commented on this.
Zelenskyy rejected the invitation last year
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected a similar invitation from Russia last year. He rejected the invitation, saying that he could not go to the capital of a country that is firing missiles at his country every day. Last year, Zelenskyy suggested that Putin should come to Kyiv instead of him going to Moscow.
This time it is particularly significant compared to last year because both sides are currently discussing a ceasefire. A new round of talks between Russia and Ukraine is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. US President Donald Trump said that very good things are happening in this process. He expects better results from it. Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire for One Week
US President Donald Trump claimed on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to a one-week ceasefire in the war in Ukraine. Speaking at a cabinet meeting called to discuss the US government shutdown, Trump said the decision to halt fighting in Ukraine was made due to the extremely cold weather in the region.
Trump said, "Because of the extreme cold, I personally asked President Putin not to fire on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. Putin agreed to this." However, there has been no reaction from Russia on this matter yet. The war between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing since February 2022.
