Taipei: Taiwan has intensified war preparations in view of the threat of Chinese attack. Defense Minister Wellington Koo said on Wednesday that Taiwan is strengthening its ability to send troops rapidly amid growing military threat from Beijing. The purpose of this is to stop China if it suddenly turns one of its frequent exercises around Taiwan into an attack. China calls Taiwan its part from the beginning and also threatens occupation through the army.
Taiwan practiced to stop the Chinese army
During this, Taiwan practiced rapid mobilization of its forces and stopping the Chinese army. This exercise will last for five days. The exercise has been conducted in different areas of Taiwan. It involves the Taiwanese Army, Navy and Air Force. The exercise began with China sending 59 military aircraft and other warships to areas near Taiwan on the grounds that it was a "punishment" for Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te's continued promotion of "separatism".
Taiwanese Defense Minister informed Parliament
Defense Minister Wellington Koo told Parliament in response to questions from MPs, "It does not take as much time for the People's Liberation Army to turn the exercise into an attack as we previously thought." He said, "(We) should be able to collect important signals of alert and be prepared for the worst from the enemy." Koo said the ministry's rapid reaction drills would be based on its intelligence and threat assessment. "Without such vigilance, if something really happens, (we) will not be ready for war."
Taiwan wants to secure Taipei
In the drills, troops set up anti-landing barriers near a major port just outside Taiwan's capital Taipei and deployed surface-to-air missile systems at strategic sites, Defense Ministry videos showed. Taiwanese security officials have said China is trying to normalize drills near Taiwan, which are called "joint combat readiness patrols" using warplanes and naval ships every seven to 10 days on average.
