Washington: US President Donald Trump has assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that his concerns will be addressed in any agreement with Iran. Trump has promised Netanyahu to resolve issues such as Iran's nuclear program, missile capabilities, and support for Hezbollah in Lebanon—matters Israel considers vital to its security. This information comes at a time when Iran and the US are very close to reaching a peace agreement.
According to a report by *The Indian Express*, *Israel Hayom* cited a diplomatic source stating that Trump told Netanyahu all issues would be covered in the agreement with Iran. Trump reportedly told Netanyahu that issues which had previously been grounds for a potential strike on Iran (specifically around February 28) would certainly be resolved; otherwise, no deal would be struck. However, the US condition regarding the missile program could anger Iran.
What happens if talks fail?
According to a source, if negotiations with Tehran fail after an initial understanding and Iran continues its military activities, the Trump administration would prioritize Israel. In such a scenario, the issue of regime change in Tehran—a long-standing desire of Netanyahu—would be placed on the diplomatic agenda in Washington.
According to the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, Benjamin Netanyahu and Donald Trump spoke on Friday. Both leaders agreed that the deal would require Iran to ship its stockpile of enriched nuclear material out of the country. Additionally, Iran would be required to impose limits on its nuclear and missile programs. Netanyahu Keeps a Close Watch
Israel is somewhat sidelined in the US-Iran agreement, yet Netanyahu is keeping a close watch on the entire sequence of events. According to a report by *Iran International*, while Israel is not directly bound by any terms of the US-Iran agreement, it is actively ensuring that Washington addresses issues of concern to it.
Netanyahu's office has stated that Israel is not a party to this memorandum of understanding. Nevertheless, Netanyahu has welcomed Trump's commitment that the final agreement would include the removal of enriched uranium, the capping of missile production, and the halting of Iranian support for its proxies in the region.
"As long as I am the Prime Minister of Israel, Iran will not possess nuclear weapons. President Trump and I are in complete agreement on this issue. For 30 years, I have been at the forefront of the international struggle against Iran's nuclear program."
— Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu
Meanwhile, regarding the agreement with the US, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei dismissed Trump's claims that a final deal was imminent. Baghaei stated that Tehran has not yet reached a final decision on the proposed agreement. Negotiations are ongoing, but the deal is not expected to be signed on Sunday.
