Trump praises Asim Munir, confirms next round of Iran talks

Islamabad: On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump confirmed the second round of US-Iran peace talks, to be held in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. He stated that another round of peace negotiations between the US and Iran could take place within the next two days. Two US officials—along with another official familiar with the developments—indicated that both sides are considering holding face-to-face talks again before the ceasefire expires next week, in an effort to reach an agreement and bring an end to the six-week-long conflict.

    Trump Confirms US-Iran Talks

In a telephone interview with *The Post*, Trump confirmed that talks with Iran are underway. He also noted that these discussions are proceeding at a rather slow pace. Subsequently, he signaled that a second round of direct talks aimed at ending the seven-week-old conflict would likely take place somewhere in Europe. Approximately half an hour later, Trump called *The Post* again to provide an update.

    Trump Praises Asim Munir

Speaking about Islamabad, Trump remarked, "You really ought to stay right there, because something could happen within the next two days—and we are strongly inclined to go there." He added, "It is highly probable—do you know why? Because the 'Field Marshal' is doing a tremendous job." Trump has previously praised Pakistan's so-called "Field Marshal," Asim Munir, on several occasions. He has even referred to Munir as his "favorite Field Marshal" on multiple instances.

    Describes Asim Munir as 'Fantastic'

He further stated, "He is fantastic; and for that reason, it is highly likely that we will be returning there." Trump said, "Why should we go to a country that has absolutely nothing to do with this matter?" Trump also indicated that he was displeased with reports stating that, during the failed talks held last weekend, the U.S. had asked Iran to halt its uranium enrichment program for at least two decades.
