Trump-Putin Deal in Works: US Companies May Return to Russia in Potential Cold War Thaw

Washington: Apart from the ceasefire in Ukraine, America and Russia are also talking about a big deal. If this deal is done, then the enmity that has been going on since the Cold War between America and Russia can end. In fact, Vladimir Putin's investment envoy has told that Russia and America are currently negotiating joint mining and other projects of rare earth metals present in Russia. Many American companies have also expressed interest in working in Russia.

Trump will deal with Russia instead of Ukraine

According to the report, amid US President Donald Trump's efforts to end the war in Ukraine, both Kiev and Moscow have offered mineral cooperation. However, Trump said on Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to back out of the proposed deal. At the same time, Zelensky claims that he is ready to do this deal with the US. In fact, Ukraine wants Trump to assure Ukraine's security in exchange for this deal, which the US is not agreeing to.

Putin had given an offer to America

In February, Putin said that the US may be interested in exploring joint exploration for deposits of rare earth metals in Russia, which has the world's fifth largest reserves of metals used in lasers and military equipment. Kirill Dmitriev, the Kremlin's special envoy on international economic and investment cooperation, told the Izvestia newspaper in comments published on Monday that talks have already begun.

The US and Russia are already talking

Kirill Dmitriev is also the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. He said, "Rare earth metals are an important area for cooperation and, of course, we have started discussing various rare earth metals and (other) projects in Russia." Dmitriev was also part of Russia's negotiating team at talks with US officials in Saudi Arabia in February. He said some companies have already shown interest in the projects. He did not name any companies and did not provide any further details.

Is Trump's anger with Putin just a sham?

Trump said on Sunday that he was "pissed off" at Putin and would impose secondary duties of 25% to 50% on buyers of Russian oil if he felt Moscow was blocking his efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Trump told NBC News that he was very angry after Putin criticized the credibility of Zelensky's leadership last week, the television network reported. Trump later told reporters he was disappointed with Putin, but added: "I think we're making progress step by step."
