Trump Reignites Kashmir Mediation Talk, India Firm on 'No Third-Party Role'

Donald Trump on Kashmir Issue: After the India-Pakistan ceasefire, Trump praised both the countries, but has started a new controversy by offering mediation on the Kashmir issue. Calling Kashmir an internal matter, India has already made it clear that the role of any third party is not acceptable at all.

After the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the situation now seems to be getting a little normal. In this matter, US President Donald Trump first tried to take credit for this conversation by becoming a hypocrite. Now, as per his old habit, he has interfered in the matter, which India clearly considers 'bilateral' - that is, Kashmir...

Donald Trump praised India and Pakistan on his social media platform Truth Social and said that both the countries showed wisdom and courage and decided to withdraw from the war, which could have saved the lives of millions of innocent people. But at the same time, he not only hinted at 'mediation' by calling America's role important, but also said that the Kashmir issue is 'thousand years old' and that he wants to help find a solution to it. Trump wrote, 'I will work together with both great countries, so that perhaps after 'thousand years' a solution to Kashmir can be found.'

What did Trump say on India-Pakistan ceasefire?

Trump wrote in the post, 'I greatly appreciate the strong and wise leadership of India and Pakistan, who with their wisdom and patience understood in time that it is necessary to stop further fighting. Because, war could have led to disastrous results. Lakhs of good and innocent people could have been killed. Your name and respect has increased with this courageous decision of yours.'

Trump further wrote, 'I am proud that America could help in this historic and brave decision. Even though it has not been discussed, I now intend to greatly increase trade with both India and Pakistan. Also, I will try to find a peaceful solution to the Kashmir issue with both the countries, even if it takes a lot of time. Heartfelt best wishes to the leadership of India and Pakistan for this good work.'

India's tough stand on the Kashmir issue

India's stand on this issue has always been clear that Kashmir is completely an internal matter of India, and if there is to be any talks on it, then only with Pakistan, that too bilaterally.

In the Shimla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration of 1999, both the countries had decided that all issues including Jammu and Kashmir will be resolved only through mutual talks, no third party will have any role.

India has repeatedly made it clear to all countries including America that no third power can become a mediator on Kashmir, nor has the right to give any opinion on it. Despite this, Trump making such a statement not only raises questions on India's sovereignty, but is also a serious diplomatic insensitivity.

This statement of Donald Trump has come at a time when he wants to create an image of a peace ambassador at the international level. This seems to be his motive behind drawing attention to the issue of India-Pakistan tension. However, India's stand is clear. There will be no third party on Kashmir, there will be talks only between India and Pakistan. That too only when Pakistan stops supporting terrorism. Till then India does not need anyone's mediation.
