Washington: US President Donald Trump has indicated that he may support a ceasefire in the ongoing air conflict between Israel and Iran, which is now in its second week. He said that it will depend on how 'the circumstances unfold.' On the question of reporters whether he would support a ceasefire while the talks are going on, Trump said, I can, depending on the circumstances. Trump also said that Europe will not be able to help much in the war between Iran and Israel.
Two weeks time for Iran
Along with this, Trump also warned that Iran does not have much time to avoid US military action. He said, 'I am giving a time period and I would say that the maximum will be two weeks.' He indicated that the decision could come soon. Trump said, 'Iran does not want to talk to Europe. They want to talk to us. Europe will not be able to help in this.' Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with his European counterparts in Geneva on Friday.
Response on sending troops to Iran
European leaders urged Tehran to engage directly with Washington, but the discussion ended without any success. When Trump was asked if US troops could be landed in Iran, Trump said, 'Well, I'm not going to talk about ground forces, because ground forces are the last thing you want to do.'
The war between Israel and Iran began on June 13, when the Israeli Air Force launched attacks on Iranian territory. After this, Iran also retaliated and fired hundreds of missiles over Israel, including ballistic and hypersonic weapons. Israel has said that its action is to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons. According to the US-based human rights agency, 639 people have been killed in Iran in Israeli attacks. At the same time, Israel has reported the death of 24 civilians in Iranian attacks.
