Sanaa / Washington: The US Army has launched a major air strike against the Houthis in Yemen. US President Donald Trump has said that he has ordered an attack on the Houthi bases. Trump wrote on his Truth social platform, 'Today I have ordered the US military to launch decisive and powerful military action against Houthi terrorists in Yemen. They have carried out a sustained campaign against piracy, violence and terrorism against American and other ships, aircraft and drones.' Al Jazeera has quoted the Houthi Health Ministry as saying that at least 19 people have been killed in the US attack. The US President said that no attack on US ships would be tolerated. Addressing the 'Houthi terrorists', he wrote, "Your time is up and you must stop attacking from today itself. If they do not do so, hell will rain down on you like you have never seen before."
Houthis' attacks in the Red Sea
The Houthis, who control most of Yemen's Red Sea region, have been running campaigns in support of Palestinians in Gaza by targeting the busy sea route. Trump also warned Iran, the main supporter of the Houthis, and asked it to immediately stop supporting the group. Trump said that if Iran threatens the US, the US will 'hold you responsible and we will not deal well with this.'
Capital Sanaa also targeted
Earlier, Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV had reported attacks in Sanaa. The Houthi media office said that US attacks targeted a residential area in the northern district of Shouaab in Sanaa. Residents of the area said the attacks were so intense that women and children were scared. A local said, 'The explosions were very loud. As if there was an earthquake.'
These attacks came after Houthi extremists threatened to attack Israeli ships again after Israel's move to stop humanitarian aid in Gaza. The group said it was resuming a ban on the movement of all Israeli ships in the Red Sea.
