London: The United Kingdom (UK) has warned US President Donald Trump that if Europe is excluded from the Russia-Ukraine peace talks, the talks may fail. Britain has proposed to act as a bridge between the US and the European Union (EU), so that the talks can be made balanced and effective.
Why is Europe's participation important?
The British government believes that Europe's cooperation is extremely necessary to establish lasting peace in Ukraine. Europe is not only an important partner of Ukraine, but has also been playing an important role in the matters of sanctions imposed on Russia, humanitarian aid and military support.
The UK Foreign Minister said, "If Europe is kept out of this process, it will weaken the peace talks and Russia may get a chance to impose unilateral decisions."
According to Britain, if Europe is not given a proper place in the peace talks, it will be harmful not only for Ukraine but for the entire global stability.
America's stance and Trump's plan
The US administration has recently announced to hold direct talks with Russia and Ukraine, in which Europe's role may be limited. President Trump has also indicated that he may soon meet Russian President Vladimir Putin so that efforts can be made towards ending the war.
However, this decision has raised concerns among European leaders.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, while giving a statement on this matter, said,
"We are ready to work with the US, but if Europe is kept out of the talks, its long-term impact will be negative."
He also added that Britain is ready to play the role of an effective mediator to make the peace talks successful.
Will America listen to Britain?
Now the big question is whether President Trump will pay attention to this warning of Britain and European countries?
Differences have emerged many times between the US and Europe regarding foreign policy in recent years, but both sides will have to come together on the issue of Ukraine war.
Experts believe that if America conducts peace talks alone and ignores Europe, then this agreement will not be successful in the long run.
What next?
In the coming days, European countries like Britain, France and Germany may put pressure on America to make them a part of the talks.
Now it will be interesting to see how President Trump reacts to this warning of Europe and whether Britain can turn the talks in the right direction with its mediation?
