    US General Visits Dhaka Amid Yunus’ China Trip, Meets Bangladesh Army Chief

    US General Visits Dhaka Amid Yunus’ China Trip, Meets Bangladesh Army Chief

    Dhaka: A top US military officer has visited Dhaka as soon as the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus, reached China. During this, he met Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar Uz Zaman. Both the military officers have also discussed in detail about US-Bangladesh military relations. In this, issues like acquisition of US origin weapons to increase the military capacity of Bangladesh and coordination between the armies of the two countries were discussed.


    What did the US Embassy say


    The US Embassy in Dhaka said that US Army Pacific Deputy Commanding General Lieutenant General Joel P. Wavell has visited Bangladesh. During his visit, Lieutenant General Wavell met his counterparts in the Bangladesh Armed Forces. He reiterated the US military's commitment to a strong relationship with the Bangladesh Army, highlighting shared security interests and ongoing cooperation.

    He recognized the Bangladeshi Army's continued support for domestic security. He also discussed Bangladesh's primary military challenges and potential areas where the US can provide assistance, especially in the light of other demands such as disaster response. Apart from this, he also discussed the Tiger Lightning exercise to be held in the summer. The US military officer also talked with his Bangladeshi counterparts on the possible purchase of US-origin equipment to enhance mutual cooperation and capabilities.


    Mohammad Yunus has gone to China


    Bangladesh interim government chief Mohammad Yunus is on a visit to China. He arrived in China's Henan province on Wednesday, where he will address the opening session of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025 at around 11:30 am local time. The session, to be held at the BFA International Convention Center in Hainan, will also include speeches by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandoune of the Lao PDR, Executive Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ding Xuexiang, Boao Forum Asia Chairman Ban Ki-moon and Secretary General Zhang Jun.
