Dhaka: Violent protests have erupted across Bangladesh following the death of Sharif Usman Hadi, a purported student leader and spokesperson for the Inqilab Manch. Hadi was known for his anti-India statements. Now, his sister has adopted the same stance. She spewed venom against India at a rally protesting Hadi's killing. During the rally, she claimed that India and the Awami League do not want elections in Bangladesh. She hailed Hadi as a revolutionary leader.
Hadi attacked in Dhaka
Usman Hadi was shot by unknown assailants in Dhaka last week and was admitted to Singapore General Hospital. However, he died during treatment. Hadi had recently announced his plan to contest the next general elections, scheduled for February 2026, from the Dhaka-8 parliamentary constituency in Bijoynagar. Reports suggest that Hadi's sister may now contest that seat.
What Hadi's sister said
According to a News18 report, in a video circulating online, Hadi's sister called for providing jihadist training to everyone in every household, including children, regardless of gender or age, to "fight against India." She said, "We should provide jihadist training to everyone in every household, regardless of gender, including children, to fight against India." Comparing him to Indian freedom fighters, she further said, "I haven't seen Khudiram Bose or Azad, but I have seen Usman Hadi. Hadi is a revolutionary leader." Anti-India Sentiment in Bangladesh
Hadi's sister's statements have further fueled the already growing anti-India sentiment in Bangladesh. Some sections of political leaders and opposition groups have alleged, without evidence, that those who attacked Hadi have fled to India. However, the Bangladeshi police and government have denied this. The police have stated that they have no evidence that Hadi's attackers have left the country.
