Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a three-day ceasefire in Ukraine. This ceasefire will be from 8 to 10 May on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in World War II. Russia has also asked Ukraine to ceasefire during this period. On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has demanded a 30-day ceasefire. This announcement from Russia has come at a time when US President Donald Trump has expressed displeasure over the delay in ceasefire in Ukraine.
Russia has decided to observe a 72-hour ceasefire from May 8 to May 10. Announcing this, the Kremlin said that if Ukraine violates the ceasefire, the Russian army will respond. Ukraine has rejected this proposal. Ukrainian President Zelensky said why should there be a ceasefire only for Putin's parade. He has demanded a complete ceasefire for at least 30 days. Ukraine's Foreign Secretary Andriy Sibiha said that his demand is for a permanent ceasefire.
Trump has also expressed disappointment
If Ukraine also accepts Russia's ceasefire decision, it will be the first complete ceasefire after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, this ceasefire is temporary. Both countries had earlier agreed to a partial Easter ceasefire, but both sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire during this period.
Meanwhile, the White House said that Donald Trump wants a permanent ceasefire in Ukraine. He is disappointed with the leaders of both Russia and Ukraine. Vladimir Putin says that he is ready to work with international partners to remove the causes of the conflict. Russia has demanded from Ukraine an assurance of not joining NATO and limiting the army.
America's efforts to reach a peace agreement in Ukraine have not been successful. Donald Trump has constantly shown activism on this issue but he has not been successful. America had prepared a 30-day ceasefire proposal. Ukraine accepted it but Russia rejected America's 30-day ceasefire proposal.
