Streambox Media's Dor TV, which gave free TV on subscription, has cheated the customers and ran away. Actually, about 8 months ago, this company started selling smart TVs based on subscription. However, now this company has suddenly stopped its services. A message "Public Announcement: Discontinuation of DOR Services" has also been given on Streambox Media's website regarding this. This means that DOR announces the closure of its services. Since this news came, those customers who had invested in the TV of this company are wandering from door to door. Let's know in detail what is the whole matter?
What is the matter?
Dor TV was launched by Streambox Media with the support of Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Stride Ventures and Micromax Informatics. Micromax's Rahul Sharma was also present at its launch event. Let us tell you that this was India's first TV-as-a-service model. In their service, TV and the content that could be watched on it could be purchased in a subscription. This company has now suddenly stopped its service and there is currently no information about what the customers have to do next or how those who want a refund will get it.
What was the subscription model
This company was offering 43 inch, 55 inch, and 65 inch TV models on different subscriptions. It is worth noting here that at present only the 43 inch TV was available for subscription to the customers. 55 and 65 inch TVs were going to be available for subscription in 2025. DOR TVs were equipped with 40W down-firing speakers with 4K Ultra HD resolution, HDR10+, and Dolby Audio. The subscription included DOR's own DorOS based on Android 13. Which offered AI based personalized content recommendations. Apart from this, access to more than 24 OTT apps such as Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, JioCinema, SonyLIV, Zee5, etc. and more than 300 live TV channels was also being given in this service. Let us tell you that the price of 43 inch TV and content subscription was Rs 10,799. This also included the first month's content subscription. After this, the user had to spend Rs 799 per month. Their TV had a 4-year warranty and 4 DorOS updates were promised with it.
Customers were cheated
Now Dor TV's subscription services, Dor Play app, and customer support have been completely discontinued. Now the customers who want to return their TV and get a refund are not getting any information about it. Apart from this, the 4-year warranty will no longer be available and due to the discontinuation of customer support, there will be no help in case of a defect in the TV. Those who have a TV of this company can use it like a normal TV. The smart content of DorOS will no longer run on this TV. The question here arises that what will happen to the money of those customers who had paid in advance for long term service?
