Virat Kohli slammed his 51st One-Day International century during the ICC Champions
Trophy 2025 game versus Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday.
On Sunday in Dubai, Virat Kohli scored his 51st ODI century while leading India to victory against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy. This defeat leaves Pakistan on the verge of elimination; they must hope that Bangladesh beats New Zealand on Monday, and they themselves must beat Bangladesh in their final group match, with the net run rate likely being a factor.
Kohli, who appeared to be in inspired form, reached his milestone with 111 balls faced in an innings that included 7 fours. Shreyas Iyer provided capable support in the middle, scoring a half-century off 63 balls after a slow start that was uncharacteristic of him before he accelerated his scoring.
Kohli had previously set the record for fastest player to reach 14,000 ODI runs in the match versus Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The 36-year-old Kohli achieved the feat in just 287 innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record of 350 innings. When Kohli scored 15 runs while pursuing Pakistan, he hit the landmark.
During the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match on Sunday in Dubai against Pakistan, Virat Kohli scored his 51st One-Day International century.
Only two other batters have ever achieved this milestone before Kohli: Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka, who reached it in 2015 after 378 innings. It took the ex-captain of India just 10 innings to move from a tally of 13,000 to one of 14,000. Kohli achieved his 13,000th ODI run in September 2023 while playing against Pakistan in the Asia Cup in Colombo.
Earlier, India dismissed Pakistan for 241, with Saud Shakeel being the top scorer for Pakistan, making 62 off 76 balls. Captain Mohammad Rizwan contributed a painstaking 46 from 77 deliveries as the two batsmen put on a third-wicket partnership worth 104 runs.
Khushdil Shah contributed with 38 runs off 39 balls, helping Pakistan recover after they had fallen to 165 for five at the beginning of the 37th over.
After all-rounder Hardik Pandya (2/31) took out Babar Azam (23) and Shakeel, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav (3/40) claimed three wickets.
He reached his hundred off 111 balls with a match-winning boundary in the 43rd over that took India to a six-wicket win against its archrival.
