India beat Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2026, enter Super 8 stage

Colombo: The Indian cricket team completely dismantled Pakistan, which had been creating drama for the past few weeks ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. Batting first in the epic match played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Team India scored 175 for 7. Ishan Kishan top-scored with 77 runs, the highest score in India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup history. India then bowled brilliantly, restricting Pakistan to 114 runs, securing a 61-run victory. This completely dampened the enthusiasm of former Pakistani cricketers and their fans. With this victory, Suryakumar Yadav's team reached the Super 8.

Highlights of the Indian innings: Ishan Kishan's half-century, score 175/7

Batting first, the Indian team scored 175 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl. Batting first, the Indian team did not have a good start. India suffered the first blow in the form of Abhishek Sharma at the score of 1. Abhishek was dismissed for a duck after 4 balls. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma put on a quick 87-run partnership for the second wicket in 46 balls. Ishan, batting brilliantly, was dismissed for 77 runs in 40 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 10 fours.

38-run partnership between Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav

Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav added 38 runs for the third wicket. Tilak struggled throughout the innings and was dismissed for 25 off 24 balls. India suffered their fourth wicket in the form of Hardik Pandya, who was dismissed without scoring a single wicket. Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dubey added 33 runs for the fifth wicket. Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for 32 off 29 balls.

Shivam Dubey and Rinku Singh made a clean sweep in the final overs.

Shivam Dubey scored 27 runs off 17 balls, and Rinku Singh scored 11 runs off 4 balls to take the Indian innings to 175 for 7. The Indian team's start, and Ishan Kishan's batting initially, seemed poised to reach 200. However, after Ishan's dismissal, the run rate dropped, leaving the team at least 20 to 25 runs short. Pakistan used six spin bowlers during the innings. Saim Ayub took 3 wickets, while Salman Agha, Usman Tariq, and Shaheen Afridi each took 1 wicket.

Highlights of the Pakistani innings: Hardik Pandya and Bumrah took 3 wickets in 2 overs

Chasing a mammoth total of 176, Pakistan got off to a disastrous start. Hardik Pandya struck first in the form of Shahibzada Farhan in the very first over. The over was a maiden. After that, the Pakistani batsmen kept returning to the pavilion in a "you go, I'll come" fashion. Jasprit Bumrah completely tilted the balance in India's favor by dismissing Saim Ayub (6) and captain Salman Ali Agha (4) in the second over.

With the exception of Usman Khan's 44-run innings, the entire Pakistani team was unable to withstand the Indian bowlers. Only Shadab Khan (14), Faheem Ashraf (10), and Shaheen Afridi reached double figures. Babar Azam (5), Mohammad Nawaz (4) and Abrar Ahmed (0) fell easily. Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each for India.
