India Blocks 8000 X Accounts Amidst War Tensions, Pakistan Support Targeted

New Delhi. India's air defense system successfully foiled Pakistan's air attack targeting several border areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Punjab on Thursday night. On the other hand, India has given a befitting reply to Pakistan by attacking Lahore and then Islamabad. Here, the Indian government has instructed X to block 8000 Pakistani accounts.

X has been ordered by the Indian government to block more than 8000 accounts in India. If these orders are not followed, the local employees of the X company can be fined heavily and sentenced to jail. These orders include the demand to block the accounts of international news agencies and major X users. In most cases, the Indian government has not specified which posts have violated India's local laws.

What does X say?

For many accounts, we have not found any evidence or reason why they should be blocked. To comply with the orders, we will only block the accounts specified in India. We have started this process. X says that blocking entire accounts is not only unnecessary, but it is equivalent to censorship of existing and future content and is against the fundamental right to freedom of expression. This is not an easy decision, but keeping the platform accessible in India is important for Indians' access to information.

Where did Pakistan try to attack?

Attempted attacks with drones and missiles led to blackouts and sirens sounding in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan. Officials urged people to stay indoors and remain alert, as emergency protocols were activated. India has reportedly retaliated in the wake of the attacks. According to sources, the Indian Air Defense neutralized several drones launched near Jammu Airport, with no casualties reported.

In addition, according to media reports, eight missiles were intercepted near Jammu. All were successfully destroyed. The attack also caused a temporary blackout at the Vaishno Devi temple in Reasi district and power was cut off in Srinagar amid tight security. Meanwhile, in the evening, an F-16 supersonic fighter jet of the Pakistan Air Force was shot down by the Indian surface-to-air missile defense system.

According to sources, the F-16 took off from Sargodha airbase and was shot down near it. The attack by Pakistan came just hours after its attempt to target 15 Indian cities was foiled. Army officer Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Air Force Wing Commander Vyomika Singh confirmed that cities and towns like Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj were on the target list. However, India's integrated counter-UAS grid and robust air defense system successfully neutralized all threats. Debris recovered from various locations confirmed that the drones and missiles came from Pakistani territory.
