IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals Win First Super Over Thriller Against Rajasthan Royals

In IPL 2025, breath-taking matches are being seen continuously. But till now there has not been a single Super Over. The result of the match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium came out in the Super Over. Batting first, Delhi scored 188 runs for 5 wickets. In response, Rajasthan could also score only 188 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs. Playing first in the Super Over, Rajasthan scored 11 runs against Mitchell Starc. Delhi achieved the target in just four balls. Tristan Stubbs finished the match with a six. This victory has taken Delhi to the top of the table.

Starc did not let 9 runs be scored

Rajasthan needed 9 runs to win in the last over. Dhruv Jurel was at the crease with Hetmyer. Mitchell Starc gave only 8 runs in the over. 1-1 runs were scored on the first two balls. After this, 2-2 runs were scored on the third and fourth balls. Rajasthan needed three runs to win on the last two balls. Starc gave only two runs and thus the match reached the super over.

What happened in the super over?

In the super over, Rajasthan sent Riyan Parag along with Shimron Hetmyer. Both hit two fours on the first four balls. But then Riyan Parag was run out on a free hit. Yashasvi Jaiswal was also run out on the very next ball. KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs came to bat for Delhi. After taking two runs on the first ball against Sandeep Sharma, Rahul hit a four on the second ball. Stubbs came on strike on the fourth ball. As soon as he came, he hit a six and gave the team victory with two balls to spare.

Slow partnership between Rahul and Porel

Talking about the match, opener Abhishek Porel scored the highest 49 runs for Delhi. He shared a 63-run partnership for the third wicket with KL Rahul (38). But this partnership was also slow. Both faced 57 balls. In the end, Akshar scored 34 runs in 14 balls with four fours and two sixes, while Stubbs played an unbeaten innings of 34 runs in 18 balls with two fours and as many sixes, taking the team's score close to 190 runs. Jofra Archer was the most successful bowler for the Royals, who took two wickets for 32 runs.

Won the toss and came out to bat. Delhi did not have a good start. Jack Fraser McGurk (09) started with two consecutive fours on Jofra Archer but gave an easy catch to Yashasvi Jaiswal in the next over of the same fast bowler. Karun Nair was run out without opening the account. Porel targeted Tushar Deshpande in the second over and scored 23 runs. After the ball got a little old, the batsmen had some difficulty in scoring runs, due to which the bowlers curbed the run rate in the middle overs.

Rahul completed a half-century partnership with Porel with a six on long off on Teekshna. While trying to play a big shot on Archer's ball, Rahul got caught by Shimron Hetmyer at deep midwicket. He hit two sixes and as many fours in his 32-ball innings. In the 14th over, the team's score crossed 100 runs but Porel was caught by Riyan Parag at long off in the same over. Porel hit five fours and a six in his 37-ball innings. Akshar increased the run rate with two fours and a six on consecutive balls of Hasranga.

Axar also hit a six and two fours on Teekshana in the next over but was caught by Dhruv Jurel at long off on the ball of the same spinner. He hit two sixes and four fours in his 14-ball innings. Stubbs hit two fours on Archer in the 19th over while Ashutosh Sharma (15 not out) also sent the ball to the boundary. Sandeep bowled three consecutive wides and a no ball in the last over in which Stubbs hit a four on the free hit and then hit a six on the next full-toss.

Rajasthan started fast

Earlier, chasing Delhi's target of 189 runs, the Royals team could only score 188 runs for four wickets despite half-centuries from Nitish Rana (51 runs, 28 balls, six fours, two sixes) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (51 runs, 37 balls, four sixes, three fours). The Royals team was once in a very strong position with 112 runs for one wicket in the 14th over, but Delhi's team managed to make a comeback with the excellent performance of the bowlers led by Starc (one wicket for 36 runs).

Jaiswal and captain Sanju Samson (31) gave the Royals a great start by adding 63 runs without losing a wicket in the power play while chasing the target. Jaiswal hit a six off Mukesh Kumar and then two fours and a six off consecutive balls of Mitchell Starc. After two sixes off Mukesh, Samson welcomed Vipraaj Nigam with a four and a six off consecutive balls. Meanwhile, Samson was also lucky when Ashutosh Sharma dropped his easy catch on Mohit Sharma's ball.

However, Samson had to retire hurt after this due to injury. Akshar took his first wicket of the current season in the fifth match by bowling Riyan Parag (08). Nitish Rana completed the team's century in the 12th over with a run on Mohit's ball, while in the same over, Jaiswal also scored a half-century in 34 balls with a run. Jaiswal scored a run on Kuldeep's ball.

While trying to play a big shot, he was caught by Starc at long off. Royals needed 73 runs to win in the last six overs.

Nitish hit a six and a four on consecutive balls of Kuldeep in the next over. Dhruv Jurel (26) completed the team's 150 runs in the 18th over with a six off Mohit, while Nitish completed his half-century in 26 balls with a four in the same over. Royals needed 31 runs to win in the last three overs. Starc tried to bring Delhi back by trapping Nitish LBW. Only eight runs were scored in the over. Jurel scored 14 runs with a six off Mohit in the next over. Royals needed nine runs in Starc's last over but only eight runs were scored, taking the match to the super over.
