IPL Cracks Down: Digvijay Rathi Fined for Controversial 'Notebook' Celebration

Digvesh Rathi Fined for Notebook Celebration: In the 13th match of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings registered a spectacular 8-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday. With this win, Punjab Kings have reached the second position in the points table of IPL 2025 with 4 points. While the team of Lucknow Supergiants has slipped to sixth position. The most successful bowler in this match for LSG was Digvesh Rathi, who took two wickets. However, celebrating the first wicket in the match has cost him heavily. He did a notebook celebration after dismissing Priyansh Arya, which is a violation of the IPL code of conduct. He has been fined for this. Also, demerit points have been given.

    Sunil Gavaskar also expressed objection

Digvesh did a notebook celebration as soon as he took the wicket of Punjab Kings opener Priyansh, but his celebration was not liked by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar sitting in the commentary box. Expressing displeasure over this, he said that if this wicket had fallen after conceding a boundary on the previous ball and such a celebration had happened, then I could have understood. You have 6 balls, if you bowl five dot balls and take a wicket on the last ball, then you do something like this, it is not understandable. This kind of gesture clearly shows that you did not expect a wicket and you got it. Now you are trying to show off.

The umpire had given a warning

Let us tell you that this celebration is the favorite celebration of West Indies bowler Williams. After dismissing Virat Kohli, he celebrated in a similar way, which went viral. At the same time, Digvesh of Lucknow also did something similar. After dismissing him, he ran towards Priyansh and was seen celebrating with a notebook next to him. On this, the umpire had a long argument with him and also gave a warning.

25 percent of match fee fine

Digvesh Rathi has been fined 25 percent of his match fee and has also been charged a demerit point for violating the IPL code of conduct with his celebration after dismissing Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya.
