Ireland post 235 against Oman, record second-highest T20 World Cup total

New Delhi: The Group B match between Ireland and Oman is being played at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo. Batting first, Ireland scored 235 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. This is Ireland's highest score in T20 cricket. It is also the second-highest score in T20 World Cup history. Now, the question is, which team has scored the highest score in the T20 World Cup? Let's find out.

Sri Lanka holds the record for the highest score in the T20 World Cup.

In the very first season of the T20 World Cup, in 2007, Sri Lanka scored 260 runs for the loss of 6 wickets against Kenya. This is the highest score by any team in the T20 World Cup.

5 Highest Scores in the T20 World Cup

    • 260/6, Sri Lanka vs Kenya, Johannesburg 2007
    • 235/5, Ireland vs Oman, Colombo SSC 2026
    • 230/8, England vs South Africa, Wankhede 2016
    • 229/4, South Africa vs England, Wankhede 2016
    • 225/5, Sri Lanka vs Oman, Pallekele 2026

This is how Ireland's innings went

Oman won the toss and elected to bowl. Batting first, Ireland didn't have a good start. The team lost both openers, Tim Tector and Ross Adair, by the score of 25. Harry Tector's third wicket fell at 45, and Curtis Campher's fourth wicket fell at 64. At this point, Ireland seemed to be in trouble.

Captain Lorcan Tucker and Gareth Delany then strengthened the team with a 101-run partnership for the fifth wicket, taking the score to 165. Delany was dismissed for 56 runs off 30 balls, including 4 sixes and 3 fours.

After Delany's dismissal, Lorcan Tucker shared a 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket with George Dockrell off 19 balls. Dockrell remained unbeaten on 35 runs off 9 balls, including 5 sixes. Tucker didn't get a chance to bat in the last over, thus missing his chance to complete his century. Tucker remained unbeaten on 94 runs off 51 balls, including 4 sixes and 10 fours.
