New WhatsApp Scam Alert! Call Forwarding Trick Used to Steal Money

A new case of WhatsApp fraud is being seen in the market these days. This fraud is being carried out in a unique way. Actually, the WhatsApp of a woman from Bhopal has been hacked. Actually, a call was made to her husband from that woman's mobile number that she urgently needs money. However, when the husband felt something was wrong, a complaint was made to the Crime Branch on his behalf. On the other hand, the woman's WhatsApp stopped working. She was not receiving any calls or messages. When Rita's husband contacted the cyber crime branch, he was told that Rita's WhatsApp account had been hacked by activating call forwarding.

This is how call forwarding was done

Rita told that she received a call from an unknown number in which the caller claimed to be a delivery boy and asked her to call a number. Since Rita was busy, she called that number without thinking much. However, this number was starting with *#, due to which call forwarding was activated.

    Call forwarding was resorted to

If the police is to be believed, the scammer registered WhatsApp on Rita's mobile number and resorted to call forwarding for verification. In this way, Rita's WhatsApp was activated on an unknown phone. After this, the scammer started asking for money through WhatsApp and other UPI methods.

Pay attention to calls coming from unknown numbers

Many such cases have come to light in recent times. In such a situation, if someone asks you to call on a mobile number starting with *#, then do not do it at all. This allows scammers to directly access your WhatsApp. Similarly, scammers carry out WhatsApp registration in another way. This method is APK Messenger Forwarder. The victim is lured to click on a phishing link. After this, a third party app is installed. This app receives messages on the victim's number and forwards it to the scammer's number. A

What to do if this happens

If your WhatsApp gets hacked, then report it directly to the Cyber Crime Branch to access it. Or you can email at support@support.whatsapp.com. Also, to avoid such fraud, two-factor authentication should be turned on.
