PhonePe to Launch UPI Payments Without Internet Using GSPay for Feature Phones

UPI Payment offline: Popular app for UPI payment 'PhonePe' is going to do a big thing very soon. After this, people will be able to make UPI payments even without internet. All this will be possible with the help of GSPay technology. The company has made preparations to connect such people with digital payment, who are still using feature phones and do not use UPI. The company has got the technology to make this possible. It has bought Gupshup's GSPay technology. It has been told that in the coming days a UPI payment app will be brought for feature phones.

What is GSPay technology, which will be used by PhonePe

It has been told that GSPay is a mobile application. It is built on the UPI payment system (UPI 123PAY) of NPCI i.e. National Payments Corporation of India. With its help, UPI payment is done through feature phones. Many mobile companies like Jio, HMD etc. have introduced such feature phones, which support UPI payment. It has been told that PhonePe will make the technology of GSPay even better. After that, the technology will be brought in the new feature phones to be launched in the country and UPI payment will be made from feature phones on the PhonePe app.

What will be the benefit to the people

PhonePe wants that the section of the country which uses feature phones and is not yet connected to UPI payment or is making payment through other methods, can easily use UPI. Through the technology of GSpay, people will be able to send money to each other through P2P i.e. person to person. They will be able to make payments offline through QR code. In this method, internet connection is not required to make payment. People will also get the facility to receive money from any UPI user. It has been told that the company wants to make payment easier between feature phone users and smartphone users.

What does PhonePe have to say on the new technology

On the new technology, PhonePe has said that it is very happy to buy GSPay technology. Through this technology, feature phone users will be able to get the facility of UPI payment in the coming days. The company believes that the finance industry and startup ecosystem have not yet paid attention to such people. The company has expressed hope that it will be able to connect crores of people using feature phones with UPI payment in the coming days.

How many people are using feature phones in the country

Statistics show that till last year, the number of feature phone users in India was 24 crores. It is estimated that in the next 5 years, 15 crore feature phones will be introduced, which means this user base will remain intact. UPI payment facility is available in feature phones, but PhonePe, Paytm or other private players have not yet jumped into this category. If the UPI app of these companies comes in feature phones, the revolution of digital payment in the country can reach the next level. More and more people will be able to use banking services from home.
