RR vs MI Highlights: Mumbai Crush Rajasthan, Knock Them Out of Playoffs After 12 Years

Jaipur: The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is now at the peak of its excitement. For the second consecutive day in the league, another team has bid farewell to the playoff race. Chennai Super Kings were given a shameful defeat by Punjab Kings at their own ground Chepauk, and now Mumbai Indians knocked Rajasthan Royals out of the playoff race by giving them a shameful defeat of 100 runs at their own ground. Mumbai Indians gave a target of 218 runs on the basis of stormy batting of Ryan Rickelton, Rohit Sharma, Surya and Hardik Pandya, in front of which Rajasthan Royals batsmen failed miserably. Last match's centurion Vaibhav Suryavanshi got out without opening the account and then there was a flurry of wickets.

Mumbai Indians win on this ground for the first time since 2012

In this way, for the first time since 2012, Mumbai defeated Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Man Singh Stadium. In this way, Rahul Dravid's team is out of the playoffs. It has only 3 wins in 11 matches, while 8 losses. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have now reached the top of the points table. It has 14 points equal to RCB, but Hardik Pandya's team is ahead of Virat Kohli's team in net run rate.

Rajasthan Royals' luck is bad in front of Mumbai Indians' killer bowlers

They had easily chased the target of 210 runs against Gujarat, while Rajasthan was expecting a similar performance here too, but it did not happen. Mumbai's killer bowlers created havoc as soon as they came on the field. Last match's centurion Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed by Deepak Chahar without opening the account. After this Yashasvi Jaiswal was bowled by Trent Boult on 13 runs. Nitish Rana also became the victim of Trent Boult, while he could score only 9 runs. Batsmen kept coming and going.

Jasprit Bumrah missed a hattrick

Rajasthan had lost 9 wickets on the team score of 91 runs, in which Bumrah also came on a hattrick once. He dismissed Riyan Parag for 16 and Shimron Hetmyer without opening the account. In the end, Jofra Archer did hit some shots, but it was of no use. Only the margin of defeat decreased. For Mumbai, Karan Sharma and Jaspreet Bumrah took 3-3 wickets, while Trent Boult took 2-2 wickets.

Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma gave a great start to Mumbai Indians

Earlier, Mumbai Indians scored 217 runs for two wickets against Rajasthan Royals due to the half-centuries of Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma and a century partnership between the two. Rickelton scored 61 runs in 38 balls with three sixes and seven fours, and also provided a solid platform to Mumbai by adding 116 runs for the first wicket with Rohit (53 runs, 36 balls, nine fours). Captain Hardik Pandya (48 not out, 23 balls, six fours, one six) and Suryakumar Yadav (48 not out, 23 balls, four fours, three sixes) took the team to a big score by making an unbroken partnership of 94 runs in 44 balls in the last overs.

Mumbai's stormy batsmen showered runs like this

For the Royals, Mahesh Teekshna (one wicket for 47 runs) and Riyan Parag (one wicket for 12 runs) took one wicket each but all the bowlers proved to be very expensive. Royals captain Riyan Parag won the toss and decided to bowl first after which Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma gave the team a great start by adding 58 runs in the power play. Rohit started with fours on Fazalhaq Farooqui and Mahesh Teekshna while Rickelton hit a six and a four on consecutive balls of Farooqui. Rickelton also hit a four and a six on consecutive balls of Jofra Archer and then welcomed Akash Madhwal with two consecutive fours.

Rohit completed his fifty in a great style

Rohit hit two consecutive fours on Kartikeya while Rickelton completed his half-century in 29 balls with a six on this spinner. Mumbai's century of runs was completed in the 11th over. Rohit completed his half-century in 31 balls with a four on Teekshna, which is his third half-century in the last four matches. Teekshna, however, gave the first blow to Mumbai by bowling Rickelton in the same over. Suryakumar opened his account with a four on Teekshna, but Rohit got caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal on the ball of Riyan Parag in the next over.

Captain Hardik Pandya opened his account with a four on Farooqi while Suryakumar also hit two consecutive fours on this fast bowler. Suryakumar increased the run rate with sixes on Teekshna and Archer, while Hardik scored 21 runs with three fours and a six in Farooqi's 18th over. Suryakumar hit a six on Madhwal on the last ball of the innings.
