Sabalenka Apologizes to Coco Gauff for French Open Comment, Writes Personal Letter

Berlin: Arina Sabalenka said that she has written a letter to Coco Gauff apologizing for the 'unprofessional' comments made after losing to her American opponent in the French Open final. World number-1 Sabalenka said that her comment was a mistake after Gauff's 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 win against her at Roland Garros this month.

Sabalenka apologized

In the post-match press conference in Paris, Sabalenka said that this result was more due to her own mistakes than Gauff's performance. Sabalenka has now said, 'It was completely unprofessional of me. I let my emotions overwhelm me. I am very sorry for what I said at that time. You know we all make mistakes. I am also a human being who is still learning in life.'

Sabalenka had hit 37 winners, but made 70 unforced errors compared to Gauff's 30.

Tiafo lost to Evans

London: British wild card entry Dan Evans defeated world number 13 Francis Tiafoe 7-5, 6-2 to register his first win at the Queens Club tennis tournament since 2021. Evans, ranked 199 in the world, said, 'I believe I can perform well. But believing it and having it happen are two different things.'

Other players who won in the first round included fourth seed Holger Rune and eighth seed Yakub Mensik.
