Ahmedabad: The 51st match of IPL 2025 was played between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This match was heated not only on the scoreboard but also on the field. In this match, Gujarat won an important victory by 38 runs. With this victory, the team got two important points in the playoff race. But Gujarat captain Shubman Gill was seen arguing with the umpires. Shubman Gill's argument with the umpires caught everyone's attention. Gill may be accused of violating the IPL Code of Conduct.
Shubman Gill fought with the umpires
Shubman Gill scored 76 runs in 38 balls. He was seen arguing with the match officials twice. Both times he violated Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This article relates to expressing disagreement with the umpire's decision. The first incident happened at the end of the 13th over of Gujarat's innings. Gill was controversially given out. He was unhappy with the third umpire's decision. So he was seen arguing with the fourth umpire while going to the dugout.

Argument happened for the second time too
Later, during Hyderabad's innings, Gill was seen getting excited again. This time he appealed for LBW against Abhishek Sharma. GT took the review, but the DRS did not show where the ball had pitched. This led to confusion. Gill had a long discussion with the umpires present on the field. Abhishek himself had to calm him down. Gill's behaviour appears to violate at least two clauses of Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct. These clauses are: 'extreme, visible disappointment at an umpire's decision' and 'arguing or engaging in lengthy discussion with an umpire.' These actions can be considered Level 1 or Level 2 offences under the IPL Code of Conduct.
Penalty can be imposed
A Level 1 offence can result in a warning or a fine of up to 25% of the match fee and one demerit point. Or a 26-50% fine and two demerit points. A Level 2 offence can result in a fine of 50-100% of the match fee and three demerit points. It can even result in one or two suspension points, with up to four demerit points.
Gujarat Titans are scheduled to take on Mumbai Indians on May 6. Gill's availability may be in question based on the match referee's assessment. No official punishment has been announced yet. But if Gill is found guilty of Level 2 offence, then a one-match suspension could also be imposed.
